User Question: I married a U.S. citizen, but next month I have my individual hearing for my asylum case in Texas. However, we just moved to another state. How do I transfer my case to the state I moved to? I really need help. I don’t have a lawyer, and on the same day as my hearing, my marriage will be two years old. My wife is taking care of our son, and I am the only one working. I am worried about my situation, especially during this difficult time for immigrants.

Expert Answer: To transfer your asylum case to the new state, you need to file a **Motion to Change Venue** with the immigration court handling your case. Since your hearing is next month, you should file the motion as soon as possible, explaining your move and providing proof of your new address. However, venue changes are not guaranteed and may delay your case. Given your marriage to a U.S. citizen, you may also be eligible to adjust status through marriage instead of proceeding with asylum. Consulting an immigration attorney is highly recommended to determine the best strategy.
