User Question: I have received my EAD. Do I need to visit the Social Security office to get my SSN card, or will they send it to me automatically?

Expert

Expert Answer: If you requested an SSN when you applied for your EAD, the Social Security Administration (SSA) will automatically mail your SSN card to you within a few weeks after your EAD approval. However, if you did not request an SSN during your EAD application, you will need to visit a local SSA office in person to apply. Bring your EAD card, passport, and proof of immigration status. You can check the status of your SSN application by contacting your local SSA office.
