User Question: I applied for asylum, completed my biometrics, and am now waiting to apply for my SSN and work permit. I was on an F1 visa but stopped attending college before applying for asylum. Now I want to return to college. What should I do, and will I pay tuition as an international student or as a domestic student?

Expert Answer: Since you stopped attending college, your F1 status may no longer be valid. To return, you will need to check with your college about re-enrollment or applying for a new F1 visa if required. As an asylum applicant, you may not qualify for in-state tuition or federal financial aid unless your state has specific policies for asylum seekers. Some states allow asylum applicants to apply for in-state tuition, so check with your school's admissions office or state regulations.
