User Question: I filed for asylum in January 2025 and have already received a notification that my interview is scheduled. What should I prepare? I don’t have an attorney or representative to help me, and I am handling this on my own. Any advice would be appreciated.

Expert Answer: For your asylum interview, prepare by gathering all supporting documents, including your written declaration, country conditions reports, identity documents, and any evidence supporting your claim (medical records, police reports, affidavits, etc.). Be ready to explain your persecution claim clearly and consistently. Practice answering questions about your asylum story, including key dates and events. Arrive on time with your interview notice and bring an interpreter if needed. If possible, consult an immigration attorney before your interview to strengthen your case.
